A rush hour treat in Edinburgh - a raft of glorious sunset colour against massing grey evening clouds. We are going down into the dark of winter, and these moments are precious.
The castle-like building in the first shot is the Balmoral hotel. The castle-like building in the second shot, with the domes and spires and flags, is the Bank of Scotland. The real castle is lurking in the distance.
More skies from across the world are at Skywatch Friday.

Being able to take full advantage of the earlier sunsets is the one positive side of it getting dark to early this time of year. Thank you for sharing yours with us!
A beautiful capture of this pink hued sky. Love the fact that a castle is in the backdrop.
Glorious sunset shots. I loved the first shot.
Gorgeous! I hate that the days are getting shorter - can hardly wait until Feb when you can really feel them getting long again. We have been watching the "Case Histories" mysteries on TV and they have been showing some lovely shots of Edinburgh.
Candy floss clouds, beautiful!
Incredible photos Linda! Are you moving into a time with more darkness? I forget how high you are sometimes latitudinally.
Fabulous pinks!
Great skies.
Sydney - City and Suburbs
what a fabulous building for a hotel, bet it is an awesome place to stay
Beautiful sky! Enjoy your weekend.
Two words come to mind - stunning and magical!
"Down into the dark of winter"--what a great phrase. Expresses exactly how winter feels to me. You're so right about sky colors this time of year. The changing of the leaves is also a bright spot. Here's to the coming winter and then the following spring!
Ah, what gorgeous shots! Lovely burst of colours; an absolute feast for the eyes.
Hi there - great pictures. For all it may seem strange - I do miss the real dark of winter. And for that matter the real new light of spring.
Swings and roundabout!

Beautiful :0)
great atmosphere ! :)
They are beautiful sky scenes. I am getting so I can recognize your clouds that hang over your country.
WOW. (Did those photos involve f-stops?) Thank you!
Nicely captured, Linda. Those colours disappear in a minute.
Oh my fav so far from all entries~
Captured beautifully!
Late visiting from SW, hope you can peek at my Skywatch entry when you get a chance. Thanks.
What a treat of a sky view, along with the many "castles" of Edinburgh!
absolutely gorgeous! i'm always amazed at the different ways light is reflected and even more so when it's reflected in color. i like the way the castle is seen way in the background.
And having been to Edinburgh, the castle does, indeed, lurk. It's a wonderful city.
My, it would be lovely to have castles to go along with sunset skies!
Awsome view !
Ah, the Balmoral... where J.K. Rowling wrote the end of Harry Potter!
What spectacular shots, Linda. The sunsets are truly beautiful in Scotland. I know the days are getting shorter so those sunsets come a little bit earlier. I loved the shot with the Balmoral hotel. Of course I have heard of it, so that was familiar. The bank building in the second shot looks pretty interesting too. Just goes to show that you do have a lot of interesting buildings there besides the beautiful sunsets. You are truly getting to be a great photographer!!
These moments are precious indeed. The red at the beginning and end of the day. The difference of that low thick grey cloud and the airy red was quite delicious.
Just finished reading the book One Day. Many of the books I read happen in Edinburgh accidentally. Mostly I picture the place to be just like it looks in this blog. hah.
Thanks for stopping by my blog...and you nice comments about my bags...I will export...I have to Australia. Such beautiful pictures...you live in an amazing land...so different from here...I love all the history!!
I bet that beautiful sky made just about everyone in the traffic feel a bit happier.
Just superb images from the city I have visited once, and hope to see again.
Wow!!! Lovely!!! Beautiful colors!!!
