Skywatch Friday - skirling
The scary carousel Wave Swinger at Edinburgh's 'Winter Wonderland' is going full tilt now. The chairs whirl round above shoppers' heads, passing within what seems like inches of the black gothic bulk of the Scott Monument.
The usual soundtrack of Princes Street is the skirl of the pipes. At this time of year the Wave Swinger adds the skirl of its terrified/thrilled/nauseous customers.
More skies across the world are at Skywatch Friday.
Looks scary to be in the air like that. Tried it once...to scary for me ;0) Great picture :0) Have a nice weekend :0)
ReplyDeleteAmazing shots :)
ReplyDeleteOh to be young and fearless!great photos, must be pretty cold as every one has a hat firmly in place.Hope you have a wonderful Christmas and wish you and your family a safe and happy New Year.
ReplyDeleteWhat a contrast between the carousel and this old castle - really interesting. Enjoy the weekend.
ReplyDeleteCool sky shot - Looks like fun!
ReplyDeleteDarryl & Ruth :)
I adore Wave Swinger rides. The only thing better than a Wave Swinger ride is one that's located in Scotland.
ReplyDeleteP.S. It's my birthday! Stop by my blog for a cocktail weiner! 8-)
I've always wanted to ride on one of those, they look like great fun!
ReplyDeleteGreat action shots:)
ReplyDeleteLinda! That is a fantastic picture!! Bravo and Happy Holidays :) xo Jenni
ReplyDeleteFabulous photos! What fun (for some). I remember 1st riding those as a kid at a fair in Pula, Croatia - it was so exciting and scary. Last one I was on (for 1 ride only) was a number of years ago at Disney's California Adventure.
ReplyDeleteI never think of outdoor rides as a winter activity! It is a beautiful looking ride.
ReplyDeleteFunny that you called that scary because i find that a very scary ride and most people don't. I love roller coasters but there is just something about this ride that is terrifying to me.
ReplyDeleteGreat shot though!!
awesome captures ! My son would love it !
ReplyDeleteSuch an interesting photo. The carnival rides look so out of place with the Gothic monument in the background.
ReplyDeleteWow, the photos of the carnival with the beautiful architecture in the background is stunning. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI would have loved that when I was much younger. I can just imagine the interwoven bagpipes and screams! Wishing you a very happy Christmas, Linda. Thanks for all your kind support over this year. x
ReplyDeleteVery nice photos Linda!!!
ReplyDeleteYou town is wonderful!!!
Best regards
Oh the incongruity! I'd pick the ancient buildings anytime over a ride. Of course, when I was younger, it would have been both!
ReplyDeleteFun photos. I much prefer taking photos of the rides over actually riding on them. :)
ReplyDeleteThere was a day when those rides would have looked thrilling to me, but I'm afraid I'm too old to even think of going on one now. That being said, it looks like a great place to be for children. I'll bet they are enjoying that one that goes so close to the monument.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the background pictures of those incredible old buildings. Sure would love to see your Scotland in person, but the next best thing is getting to look at all your amazing photos. You are really a great photographer, Linda. Thanks for this post.
We are leaving for Northern California to be with our daughter, Sue, for Christmas early Thursday morning. Two of my children and all their families will be there. All together we will be 21 people and I am excited. I do hope that you have a wonderful Christmas and a great New Year.
Great shots that really bring the atmosphere of Edinburgh's Christmas to those of us in the sticks. I made the mistake of trying a fairground ride (a fairly mild rollercoaster) with my son on his birthday, and discovered that these rides don't mix at all well with whiplash and brain injuries! Durr! No loss though - I was always too much of a feartie to enjoy them much anyway. I just enjoy watching others on them, as in your photos.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes for a very Happy Christmas and a guid New Year. Hope you get some time off to enoy them!
Looks like fun!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat action shots!
ReplyDeleteLOVE them both!
Thank you to all who have commented. I've enjoyed reading them, although Christmas and travel and so on have cut down time to reply individually. But I've been fascinated by the different reactions to the wave swinger. I'm with those who would avoid it!
