Watery pursuits
We spent a weekend of water and other sports at Loch Tay recently. The wind was pretty brisk all weekend - just right for exhilarating sailing and windsurfing. The action figure in these shots is my son. I'm not really into immersion in cold Scottish water, or even the prospect of it, so I stuck to canoeing and walking. That meant I was the ideal choice for photo duty.
Below, coming into harbour. Mine is the one in the middle.
And after one drenching, why not head out across the loch under a different sail?
Nice action shots. Yes, windsurfing is very popular in the nearby Columbia River Gorge. The town of Hood River, OR is full of windsurfers and kiteboarders this time of year. But I'm with you, I'd rather sit on the shore and take photos.
ReplyDeleteSomeone has to be the photographer, and I'm happy to oblige. My husband was also taking photos and not so happy about it - he has hurt his back, so windsurfing and strenuous sailing were both out for him that day.
DeleteThis does look like fun, but maybe too cold for me!
ReplyDeleteIf it's too cold for me, Michelle, as a hardy Scot, it's bound to be too cold for you!
DeleteHe probably didn't even feel the cold! Looks like a fun day together!
ReplyDeleteI don't think he did, it was such an exhilarating sail. And they had wetsuits on.
DeleteIt looks like the youngsters have fun!! I would not dare to step into a kiteboard or a canoe...I have tried canoeing once...not especially suksessfully...he, he!
ReplyDeleteCanoeing is ok, but I'm not keen on the kayak variety where you have to be able to get yourself out from underneath if you capsize, while sealed in by a waterproof skirt.
DeleteI often look up places you mention. Today I learned about the crannogs. Nice to see the boys having fun.
ReplyDeleteDo you know, we have never been to the crannog centre. We meant to go this year and didn't get organised to visit on our way up to Killin.
DeleteOh, that does look like fun!
ReplyDeleteThey had fun at least, which was the main thing!
DeleteThose lakes would have chilly water for sure. They sure did have a lot of fun on the lake. I would take walking anymore even though I did waterski and sail in my day.
ReplyDeleteI imagine you have happy memories of your waterskiing and sailing - great to have done these things.
DeleteWonderful views, Linda!
ReplyDeleteThanks Pietro. The hills aren't as dramatic as your beautiful Alps, but they have their own charm.
