Happy New Year!

Wishing you a Happy New Year, with a toast in the lovely Ginger Rodent, a beer from the Cairngorm Brewery. The tasting notes on the brewery website will give you a second-hand flavour: " A golden coloured, light bodied continental style beer.  The liberal addition of Saaz hops provides an initial fresh and zesty flavour in coalition with Styrian Goldings providing late aromas".  I discovered from the website that the beer was brewed to celebrate red heads, of which Scotland has many, and in particular Danny Alexander, Member of Parliament for Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch and Strathspey and Chief Secretary to the Treasury.  In the fine, insult-laden tradition of British politics, he was referred to as a 'ginger rodent' by a member of an opposing political party.

A lot going on in Scotland this year.  It may well be year of the hamster for all I know, but we also have the 700th anniversary of the battle of Bannockburn (Scots victorious over English) in June, the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in July and August, and in September the referendum on Scottish independence.  Interesting sequencing...?

  7. As the page began to scroll down the necks of the bottles made it look as the festive season was being granted an extension. Then I saw the label. I'd have to be brave to sip it. Even braver when I read the Danny Alexander connection. I think I'd look away. Then I began to wonder if I would prefer to drink a cannibalistic drink named after a politician I admire or one I don't. It think I'd prefer the admired - which is a bit back to front. Perhaps I should say wardrobe?
