Preparatory reading
Thanks to the well-stocked travel section of Edinburgh's central library we've been doing some preparatory and aspirational reading. Excuse the blurry shots throughout - obviously my hand was shaking with the excitement of escape.
Vancouver was for our daughter, who now has exciting plans in place. We were in Vancouver very briefly as a family in 2007, en route to a Suzuki music institute in the southern interior of BC. So briefly that all we saw was the airport, an airport hotel and then the airport again.
Below, London x 2. More on this in my next post.
Below, dreaming of the south, as is normal at the end of the Scottish winter. Even such a mild one as this.
And in contrast, aspirational planning for a trip towards Ultima Thule.
Wow - you've got a lot of exciting things planned! Just yesterday my hubby was saying we need to start planning our camping trips and other outings for the summer. My big plan is to visit all the National Parks in southern Utah and possibly the Grand Canyon this fall. Can't wait to hear about all your adventures.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like something to keep you going until the next ski season, Linda!
DeleteA good friend had a wonderful trip to the Faroes a few years back, and I've always wanted to go. Their knitting is very special, too!
ReplyDeleteThe idea of the boat journey appeals, but I don't think I could face the likely sea-sickness. So it's going to have to be by plane. I would buy some of the knitting...just don't approach me with a ball of wool!
DeleteHmmmm...my desk is full of travel books too!!! Of Scotland!!! We're looking at flying into Inverness and doing the northern part of Scotland, up to Sky Island....Loch ness etc...or the other option is flying into Edinburgh, staying more to the south including the Isle of Aran....any difference in weather between the two areas in October???
ReplyDeleteExciting! I don't think there will be much difference in the weather. My preference would be for the north west. Skye is wonderful, and the scenery from there north is dramatic. Loch Ness is a pleasant loch but not as stunning as the west coast, and the Loch Ness monster stuff is a bit of a tourist trap.
DeleteGlad to hear about the weather...I was a bit worried!!! The travel book I'm using is one that focuses on the less traveled path!!! I'll take a look at what the west coast has to offer!!! Thanks for your feedback! Have fun planning your upcoming journey!!!
DeleteYour daughter liked Canada last year! The weather has been quite nice out in Vancouver lately - much warmer than here.
ReplyDeleteShe absolutely loved Canada, RedPat. I think she's halfway to becoming a Canadian.
DeleteThose are all great topics! Exciting times are coming your way!
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to plan. Even if we are saving pennies in a jar for some of it!
DeleteIt looks as though 2014 is going to be an exciting year for you Linda.I would find the choice hard I must say. You had better go to all of them.
ReplyDeleteI wish we could, Gary. If only we had won that Euromillions jackpot last week...
DeleteThe Med does look awfie appealing just now. It's BC that is on my bucket list, though. One day I'll get there.
