Popping home

We've had a tough start to 2015.  My father in law died at the start of the month and since then we've been taken up with everything around a family funeral, while continuing with a hectic pace of work.
Our son came home from Australia for the funeral.  He's spending the year there on a working visa.  It was a sad circumstance that brought him home, but wonderful to see him at the same time.  In a rare glimpse of me on my blog, here I am with my boy.  He doesn't wear the kilt all the time, but it was Burns' Night, so it was a good excuse to check that it still fits.  He has actually grown in the time he's been away - must be all the unaccustomed sunshine - but thankfully the kilt is still okay.  As for me, when I saw myself in the photo my first thought was, 'I must get my hair cut'.  I have very thick, fast-growing hair - practical for the Scottish winter in terms of warmth, but sometimes I feel like a sheep in a drift, as the saying goes here.

Now my wee boy is back in Australia, and the kilt is packed away.  We're trying to get going again and back to a more even keel.

As a PS, I've signed up to Bloglovin and apparently I have to 'claim' my blog.  A mystery to me, but here goes:  Follow my blog with Bloglovin

  2. I'm sorry about your father in law.

I follow several blogs that do that- as long as they turn up in my blogroll, that's what matters.

    1. Thanks William.

The blogroll is my main way of accessing updates too. I think I'm not designed for too much fancy stuff on social media. I'm a Facebook-free zone, for example!

    1. Hello Linda, yes, it was a silver lining. Normally I run a mile from having my photo taken, but this time I thought - time together and memories are precious.

  4. Your son is handsome and YOU, my dear, are ADORABLE!!!!
Changing anything on the blog scene kind of makes me nervous! I saw your feed on my sidebar so I am assuming I will still be able to 'find' you!!! I really don't know the difference between Boglovin and Blogger....
    Wishing you a good week!!!

    1. First time I've been called adorable, Linda, but I could get used to it :)

I don't think the Bloglovin thing does all that much, but I thought I'd try. I'm nervous about blog changes too. Some things seem to get changed for us without so much as a by-your-leave. I find that very frustrating.

  7. I remember the previous story when you son picked out his kilt. I compare this story with our boys when they first rent a tuxedo. At the price of rent they really should have bought one. It is so great to share a piece of your world with us from over seas in the middle of the plains.

    1. My goodness, what a good memory you have Larry. That would have been back in 2009. All these formal things cost so much it's worth considering making an investment.

I will pop over to the middle of the plains soon to see how winter is treating you.

  9. Ah, Linda. I had been thinking about your father-in-law, and wondering. I am sorry that your family has suffered his loss. However much we know it is coming, it is still a huge thing when it happens.
What a fine daughter-in-law and grandson he leaves, though: it is very nice to see you at last!

  11. So sorry for your loss - the time after Christmas always seems to be a flurry of such leavings, made worse by the grey winter weather. Hoping family and friends helped to warm your hearts.

That son of yours - well, let's just say no one needed to bring dessert to the Burns supper! *wink*

    He's a fine lad, isn't he?!
