Mother's Day in any language

Two shops side by side on Princes Street. Take your pick as to whether you want to be Mom, or the traditional British Mum.

These photos are from last year's Mother's Day. I've been too busy this year for photos. My Mother's Day present today was our son home from university with a load of washing - and mumps. Given that both children have now had mumps, and my daughter measles bad enough to put her in hospital for a week, I'm wondering what was in the batches of MMR vaccine they were given in childhood.

  1. Oh, I remember the mumps. I had them. Dreadful malady! I hope he feels better soon.

And Edward and I are wishing you a happy mother's day, in spite of the mumps!

  3. You definitely have a different day for Mother's Day or I am in BIG trouble. Yes, the vaccines must have not worked. Of course I am so old that I just had the diseases and there were not vaccines. My kids all had chicken pox when they were young. Happy Mother's Day to you.

  4. Your mother's day is sooner than in the U.S. We celebrate in May. Happy Mother's Day! I hope the mumps and measles are over in your house.

  5. Oh dear! I'd be wondering about that vaccination, too. Hope your son is back to good health soon and that things settle down to a more normal routine. I remember you saying your father has had some health issues, as well. I hope he's making good progress.

Here's to a happy mother's day, even though it's an unusual one.

  6. Happy Mother's Day....a bit belatedly..from the USA. We moms on this side of the pond must wait till May for our turn!

Perhaps the latest strains of mumps and measles have morphed so that those old vaccinations no longer protect...that's a scary thought!

  7. How rotten about the mumps...the laundry a Mum could handle. I do wonder why the MMR vaccine didn't prevent these. Ian hasn't had any of those...and you've confirmed that it's bad when they get it when they are older. Hope he gets well soon.
I love the photos esp. for all the moms in them. US Mother's Day is on May 9th this year.

  8. Happy Mother's Day, Mum! Hope you get royal treatment! And I am so sorry that you have had to deal with mumps. How awful.
