Housing options

Which would you choose? The haunted cottage, or the tents beside the burn?

The tent option comes with wake-up call from the sun at a very early hour:

And running water:

Edited to say that we're off on holiday for a bit. France here we come, via the Ryanair 'bus' to Bordeaux. I'll look forward to catching up with blogs when we're back.

  1. The site is lovely, but the image of such a once-charming cottage all boarded up like that makes me sad. Is it really thought to be haunted, or were you taking a bit of poetic license?

  2. Adrienne, the haunted bit was because the girls thought it looked really spooky as they passed it. It is sad to see the house boarded up. Strange, the stonework and roof look in good condition and recently maintained, but the boards look weathered as if they've been there for ages. I like the tree trunk posts - they're a traditional feature of houses in this area.

  4. I've enjoyed viewing your daughter's hiking photos - good luck to her! A young woman who can survive outdoors will be a success in whatever she endeavors.

  5. I quite like that cottage. I bet it could be made very comfortable (which a tent is not). But, I do like the idea of being right by that burn.

  6. This is exactly why I love reading novels set in Scotland, while sitting way out here in the Chihuahuan Desert! And this is also why I love visiting your blog, Linda. Beautiful photos, beautiful country.

  7. That is a wonderful old cottage. A new house built just like that would be great. She had a great place to camp.

  9. Hi Linda,
This D of E thing is very interesting. Is getting the award something you can put on your college application? Is it well regarded?

I spent 10 hours yesterday slogging up hill to get to treeless slopes and vistas. Seems like your "tundra" is easier too come by. Is it filled with flowers in the spring?

Some of the craggy outcrops in that area are very interesting.

  10. I'd take the tents until I got that dream of a cottage fixed up and made friend with the ghost ;o) Enjoy your holidays!

  16. I think I'm leaning toward the haunted cottage although the running water that comes with the tents looks rather appealling!
    Beautiful photos and countryside.
Have a wonderful and safe journey Linda et al!

  18. I would opt for the cottage, taking a hard floor to the uneven ground any day. =) But that's what youth is for; they can endure hardships and snap back fast.

The certainly had gorgeous scenery with many photo ops!

Wishing you an enjoyable and restful holiday ~
