Alongside the usual red roses, heart-shaped leaves make a novel Valentine's Day gift.
My Valentine's Day gift today? A very muddy walk in the Borders countryside south of Edinburgh, with showers of hail and rain to clear away the city cobwebs.
It would take your mind off of things with the weather being difficult. Heart shaped cactus would get me in trouble. I think I will stick with roses, red ones.
Love your hearts...cactus is so clever! I have never seen that shape in the ones around here! Happy Valentine's to you! Since your day is almost over...hope it was a good one! I remember always thinking 6 hours ahead when Amber was over there! As my day was just starting she was already well into hers!
I love how so many plants have heart shaped leaves :o) They're much better to receive than flowers too I think because they last so much longer! A plant can last for years whereas flowers are usually dead after a week!
As for your walk, it sounds just about as fun as mine was this morning! It was raining and it had snowed overnight so the roads were incredibly slushy and two drivers were too close to the side of the road a splashes everyone who was walking with copious ammounts of slush, including yours truly of course. Yuck!!!
Although we are in the desert, our recent prolonged spell of below-zero F. weather has wiped out a good many cacti here. It's so sad to see fifty year old plants in people's yards reduced to a pile of rotting leaves.
I have some young specimens in my garden that will have to be replaced with natives. It was a hard lesson for all of us who, knowingly or un-knowingly, planted more tender varieties that could survive in our zone only by luck.
Sorry, I may be a bit too late to wish you a Happy Valentine's Day... I do like these unusual cacti (or succulents) very much, any way to know their name?
Hi Linda A walk in the borders you mention sounds just about right. And those heart shaped leaves are indeed quite different. Hope the weather up there is improving. Have you seen Old Dollar Bill perform at Whiski Bar on the Royal Mile?
Very nice pictures of flowers and cactus. Thanks for visiting, and yes we are very glad that the sun has come back and we now have the long bright days.
LauraX sent me the link to your beautiful cactus heart post because she knows how I love random hearts.
And I LOVE these hearts! They are absolutely amazing!
I would like to link this to this week's Guest Heart Thursday, if you don't mind. If you would rather I didn't, I will remove the link. clytie-randomhearts.blogspot.com

ReplyDeleteAny idea what kind of cacti these are? Nice to know Valentine's Day in Scotland has a sense of humor as it does here in the States!
