May snow

In the past week we've been hurtled from grudging spring into summer.  Heading north on the A9 last Saturday the hills around the Drumochter Pass were all snow-capped and the birch trees by the side of the road showed only the faintest green.

Note the electricity pylons - they're soon to be replaced by a new power line which will make a very definite visual imprint on the landscape.

Above, the Cairngorms with late season snow which has seen a rush to the ski slopes after a pretty dismal season otherwise.  Much skiing in kilts, if not in bikinis.

Below, just a glimpse of snow in the background, and one of my favourite houses on the journey.  The little loch is a mass of wild water lilies later in the summer.

    1. I did wonder if any North American readers would see similarities. I long to visit Montana - maybe because I'd feel at home there.

    1. The ski resort wasn't complaining, but everyone else was.

  3. I love late-season snow, it's so beautiful and doesn't stick around long. Those are lovely photos, Scotland looks like an incredible place and I really must visit it one of these years.

    1. One of the advantages of Scotland for a holiday is that there's so much variation of scenery in a small country.

  4. Oh my, snow in the mountains in late May! I have to admit that your photos are gorgeous. The mountain's make for a beautiful background up against the green landscape.

We have many of those electrical grids here in the US. One such grid was in a subdivision that we lived in. People here in the US aren't fond of them and usually won't purchase a home if one is close by. It never bothered me and I didn't notice any issues crop up because of it.

    1. There was an attempt to persuade the power company/government that there should be an underground cable in the most scenic areas, but I think the budget must have been against it.

  7. Linda, I received a package from the Royal Mail!!! From YOU, of course!! I loved every item and will send you a proper thank you tomorrow but I HAVE to tell you my FAVORITE is the tea towel!!

When my son in law fetched the mail he came in said - with a puzzled look on his face - "there is a package for YOU!" I knew right off it was from you and said, "Oh, that's my friend, Linda, in Scotland!" He was EVER so impressed!
Thank you for thinking of me.

By the way - Amber is resting comfortably and may very well make it to 30 weeks before delivering her quadruplets!

  10. These pictures are so beautiful, Linda. I loved the first one so much. The contrast of colors really drew me in. Of course the other two are lovely too. You are so right about Scotland, there is so much beauty there everywhere you look. I am so glad you are such a great photographer.

I just have a hard time picuting Scotish men skiing in kilts. I too would have loved a picture of that!!!

My son lives in Lake Tahoe, which is a destination resort here in the U.S. It is partly in California and partly in Nevada. My son is in the Nevada area. They have had such a mild winter that the economy was truly effected because the snow just wasn't there a lot of the time. They too had some late snow around the first of May, so they had a bit of a surge business wise but all they can do is hope for an early winter next year with lots of snow. Of course in the summer they do have a lot of people come for the water sports in that beautiful large lake.
