From sprouts to sunset
A collection of images to illustrate our run-up to Christmas.
Above, endless Brussels sprouts in the Elgin branch of Tesco this morning.
Below, a handknittted tree decoration made by a dear Norwegian friend, and the Norwegian flag bunting that is an essential part of our Christmas decorations.
The wee chap in more detail, for the knitters among you and especially Christine and Judy.
As we drove north yesterday through the gales and rain which have battered Scotland recently the motorway signs were warning of ferry cancellations to Shetland. The islands' Tesco store (Tesco again!) ran out of food as a result, but re-stocked by dint of chartering a Hercules transport plane.
My attempts to get an in-focus shot of the signs failed - not for want of advice from my family. "Zoom out, OUT, Mum!" "NOW, take the shot NOW!"
After a stormy night today was calmer. My daughter and I walked by the Spey in the last of the daylight. The shots below were taken just after 3pm.
On these short days any glimpse of blue sky is precious.
Wonderful wintry shots. Thanks for sharing, and Merry Christmas.
ReplyDeleteNice sky shots! Yes, we've been getting hammered by rain over here in Oregon. But I don't mind because that means the mountains are getting lots of snow! And I can go skiing! Woo-hoo!
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas, Linda, to you and your family!
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteI love those pictures of the sunset - and thanks for the picture of that santa - looks like a 'turkey twizzler' type thing - I'm sure I'll be able to work it out - I'll let you know if I do. I heard about the plane taking sprouts to Orkney - only in Britain hey? It's been pretty wet down here too - we're driving off to Dorset today and I'm a bit anxious. Have a great Christmas, Judy.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas to you and your family, Linda!
ReplyDeleteHaha!!! This is the second photo today featuring brussels sprouts!!! The other is featured on Justine Gordon's blog from England! I must admit...not many in the US eat and like brussels sprouts...but I do!!! Love your other pics too!
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas to you and yours!!!
(I love Brussels sprouts.)
ReplyDeleteA very merry Christmas to you and your family, Linda! Your knitted Norwegian decoration is intriguing. And oh for a glimpse of the sun - we all spotted it this afternoon for a little bit.
ReplyDeleteMERRY CHRISTMAS FROM NEW YORK!!!
ReplyDeleteHope you're having a happy Christmas wherever you are. And beware of excesses, whether for food or drink.
ReplyDeleteMerry Xmas ! :)
ReplyDeleteMerry Xmas Linda! The sky in those Spey photos look quite a lot like the view from my house (except for the blue bit). Wishing you a great 2013!
ReplyDeleteV.
Linda,
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas to you and your family! We received a nice surprise today...snow. Not much about an 1 inch. We never get snow here rarely if ever but it all started out with rain and thunderstorms last night turning to freezing rain which turned into snow. In Texas, it just never happens! LOL
I hope you had a great Christmas, Linda, and have a wonderful New Year. I like these festive shots, but have to admit that I don't miss those grey winter skies from when I lived in Holland. But those last two skies are perfect!
ReplyDeleteA belated Merry Christmas to all! It's been interesting hearing what the festive weather has been like in various parts of the world. And to discover some sprouts lovers in surprising places!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous sky photos. The little guy is a cute little guy. We have a few stockings that were made by crochet and a Christmas wreath. Yours makes a great tree decoration.
