12 kuvaa/photos - my walk to work January

Back to the blog, and just squeezing into January's 12 kuvaa/photos before it closes. Last week I would have shown you snow, and the city caught in a bright ring of frost and sun. This week Britain's Big Freeze is over in many places. Today's walk to work at 8.15 a.m. was in sleet, and darkness that seemed deeper than the December murk just before the winter solstice. The soldiers are up and doing in Edinburgh Castle, however, judging by the topmost lights above the rooftops. Stirring their porridge and frying their bacon, and warming their kilts before the fire.

Below the monuments on Calton Hill are looking decidedly un-monumental.

I was very touched by all the good wishes that people have left. My father had a bad fall and has been very poorly in hospital for 10 days. We went back north to visit and weather-proof the house against the freezing temperatures. Just in the past day Dad has improved and is now out of the high dependency unit. Quite a way to go yet, but things are looking up. Thank you so much for the kind thoughts.

  5. So glad to hear your dad is on the mend. And glad to have you back to blogging. LOVE the pics. What a diff the months make in how much light you have on your walk to work huh? Love the mist and the lights though!

  9. Lovely! I even like the foggy/misty view, it's so mysterious... like a scenery straight from a Agatha Christie novel.
But your January photo is a lovely little jewel - I mean, aren't those yellow lights a bit like chunks of glowing gold :)

Good to hear your Dad is getting better.

  10. I'm glad that your father is recovering.

I had no idea that it would be that dark in Scotland at 8:30am....I will not complain about the lack of daylight hours here anymore...

  11. I'm glad to hear that your father is recovering.

My husband and I were traveling the past week. I am way behind on reading blog posts. I am catching up on the reading today. I will write and post a blog later this week, after I collect my thoughts and organize photographs from our trip.

  13. The street is so dark - the golden reflections & the indigo skies are lovely. The image must match the hardship your father has gone thru & you too. Glad he is on the mend.
