Road signs - the snow collection
Above, a Belisha beacon at Tesco in Aviemore. Below, a snow bank in Keith makes a convenient prop for a traffic control stop/go sign. (My goodness, I sound like National Geographic magazine captions.)
Below, school crossing sign in Cromdale, north of Aviemore. Through a dirty windscreen. At minus 14 C the washer water had frozen, despite copious amounts of anti-freeze. No, I wasn't the driver.
I never noticed before that our school crossing signs have the female child in charge. Stereotype of mothering instinct, or recognition of common sense?
Great serie ! Hope that now everything is back to normal ;)
ReplyDeleteYou really do have as much snow as we do. We may get up to 32 degrees and might melt on Thursday, but I am not counting it. Nice shots.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like real winter! I think the female child in charge is recognition of common sense.
ReplyDeleteI felt right at home. Snow is everywhere and lots of it and more to come. School crossing sign was fun and to me it was just a girl leading the little brother across the street, nothing more.
ReplyDeleteCommon sense of course. :-)
ReplyDeleteWe who had over 9feet of snow last year have had the warmest January on record. It's been nice.
But, somehow I miss the snow also.
I imagine the children of Scotland are having a great time.
There's lots of snow piled up in your photographs. I looked up what is a Belisha beacon on the Internet. I had never heard the term. I like reading your blog posts; I tend to learn something new.
ReplyDeleteOh my, that is a lot of snow, and with more gray clouds in the sky (in the last photo). I hope they were clearing and not threatening more of the powdery stuff.
ReplyDeleteDef common sense! lol......thank you for the comment on my wedding post. I cant find your email to have you send me the pics from Christmas, so here is mine: hgr8scot@myway.com. And I LOVE the tartan dress (so does Daven), but wow!! the price! lol...so we are improvising!
ReplyDeleteLove the pale baby blue sky with all that wonderful snow!! It does make for great pictures!
ReplyDeleteIt looks very cold there!
ReplyDeleteRegarding your last sentence, which made me chuckle, I vote for common sense!
My, my! So much snow! Very lucky... or unlucky, depending on how you look at it :) Pretty pictures though.
ReplyDeleteWow you really have had a huge amount of snow up there.
ReplyDeleteRecognition of common sense....no doubt!
ReplyDeleteAre you enjoying the snow?
(I've come over from Sarah's blog, two red boots!)
ReplyDeleteLovely photos :) We are hoping to visit the Highlands this summer and do some dolphin-spotting.
The woman who designed the traffic signs was on Top Gear recently - the old sign used to be a bigger boy and a smaller girl, but she changed them round because she thought it seemed friendlier (iirc), and based the girl on herself as a child :)
