Here's hoping

One of the casualties of our snowy weather has been the weekly rubbish collection. Many streets seem to be too icy for the refuse lorries to venture down. We're especially hoping for a collection tomorrow, since having a Monday collection day means that it's coincided with the Christmas and New Year public holidays.

Houses have their individual green bins, usually kept in the garage or the garden, while blocks of flats have communal bins situated on the street, as above. And it's all piling up.

  1. Lol - we are the same. Our council decided to concentrate on the grey bins, which would contain cooked food waste, at the expense of the blue recycling bins, so we were disappearing under a mountain of plastic and cans. They seem to be getting there now. xx

  2. refuse lorries? I love learning new words.... :) We just call them garbage trucks. Last February we had a massive snowstorm and our garbage started piling up like this. Hope it gets taken care of soon!

  4. When we have bad snow storms they tend to pick another day and I miss getting my bin out because I don't know when it is going to be. Lots of stuff gets collected the next week. We are suppose to get six to eight inches of snow the next two days.

  5. That looks like it is all recyclables - no? We have 3 bins- garbage, recyclables, and compostables. A lot of sorting but it is incredible how little real garbage goes out!

  6. Oh, DEAR!! Are you a communal or individual? Either way.....I hope they show up! It is like a miracle when all the trash disappears, isn't it? We do tend to accumulate so MUCH of it! I am trying to burn some in our outdoor fireplace when weather permits.

  7. Pat, it does all look like recyclable waste. We have separate bins for those, but they were probably full. Still, a bit of compacting of cardboard boxes would help.

Linda, we have an individual bin. And no, it wasn't collected today. Sigh. I think the problem was that the downhill part of our road is still icy, and the rubbish lorries seem not to be able to cope with ice. Cars are getting up and down it fine.
