Jubilee - Solar Queen

Preparations for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee in June are gathering pace.  There are some 'tasteful' retail opportunities out there.  One of my favourites is this Solar Queen (or Reine Solaire, presumably for the Canadian market).  Place Her Majesty in a sunny spot and she'll respond with a solar-powered wave of the hand.

Since I'm not of a separatist persuasion - proudly Scottish, yes, but also proudly British - I'll be featuring a few more Jubilee gems over the next couple of weeks.

  1. I Love this!1 I think I will have to look for one. We had Charles and Camilla in town yesterday as part of the jubilee celebrations and to watch our Victoria Day fireworks. A bit of pomp is nice once in a while!

    1. Exactly! Can you imagine the concept meetings these companies must have. I hear there's also a solar Pope.

  4. Hail to the Queen! I'm sure this will be a very big celebration. I have a friend who has an aunt who lives in Scotland that she visited a couple years back. I hear you have some very beautiful and scenic areas there.

  5. I LOVE it! So clever and much better than what the States offer with their caricatured "action figures" and sports/political bobble-heads!

  9. I'm feeling very enthusiastic about the Diamond Jubilee. I'm embracing it all, the pomp and circumstance, the picnics, the kitsch. Having spotted these waving queens elsewhere I have tried to bring myself to buy one as I love this kind of kitsch - but I just can't. It reminds me too much of Mrs. Thatcher.

    1. I know, it's such a special occasion.
Now you come to mention it, there is a certain Thatcher-esque look to Her Majesty. I also fancied I saw a touch of Ronald Reagan.

  10. Ahhhh!!! Similar to the Jesus figures I saw years ago, all over Rome in the cathedrals with the eyes that followed you!!!

  11. That's marvellous, who comes up with these things? What a great job, designing kitsch memorabilia.
