Last snow of the winter?

For most of the winter we have been in a snow-free bubble in Edinburgh.  The rest of Scotland, and even the rest of the UK, have had dumps of snow.  Traffic-stopping, school-closing snow.  So it was a surprise to travel north through the central Highlands the other weekend and discover the white stuff.  Above, Blair Atholl.  Below, a desolate scene at the Drumochter Pass.

Herds of deer were foraging near the road.

Blank hillsides - hard to remember that these were vibrant with purple heather a few months ago.

On the lower hillsides of Speyside the snow had all but vanished.  Is it wishful thinking that there is a slight haze of spring buds about the trees?

  3. Thank goodness for wishful thinking - I've been squinting at my own trees and willing for them to show some buds. Lovely snow, glad it's somewhere other than where I am...

  5. Great snow pics but so cold-looking. We have had more snow this year than for a while and I'm ready for spring buds!
Thanks for the birthday wishes. I always remember how you were among the first commenters who weren't friends of mine and I remember how thrilled I was to hear form someone in Scotland!

  7. That is such beauty you have there in Scotland. I know our snow isn't over yet, as March and April are our snowiest months, and we usually get some even in May (it's been a light snow year so far at our house, we've had just under 4 feet so far).

    1. 4 feet! Still, not as much as the poor afflicted north of Japan, where houses have been buried this year.

  8. More interesting shots of your beautiful country. I will admit it does look a bit desolate, but even that can be interesting. I think it is wonderful that you can travel about and take pictures like you do.

I haven't been on the computer for about three weeks. I have just been so busy. We had three sets of company in the last three weeks so it has kept me very very busy. I noticed that I haven't posted on my blog for that same three weeks. That may be the norm for me in the future. Not that I will be so busy, but quite the opposite, it looks like it is going to be so slow that I won't have anything at all to post about. Anyway, I did post a couple of days ago, so hope you'll drop by.

Hope all is well with you and your family.l

  16. The mountains are so beautiful with the snow on them. We have a lot of wild deer in our area too. It is neat to see them out foraging for food.

    1. There's talk of a big cull of wild deer in Scotland - Scottish Natural Heritage thinks they're damaging the environment, but there's a lot of opposition to the cull.

  17. Thank you for your visit my blog Linda!
I think, I have been telling you from our living in Scotland a long time ago! We lived then near Aberdeen in the small village, Kinmuck. In one of your photos shows perhaps red deer. My husband studied just them in the Rowett Research Institute during our year there.
It is really nice to see your photos there!
My son visited Scotland with his family and showed to his wife and daughters his school and house, where we lived :)
Good Sunday to you and yours Linda!
