Skywatch Friday - sunset with flaming greenhouse

I agree with chrome3d - enough of the election. Here's a sunset from when we were up on Speyside a few weeks ago. Having spent the afternoon tidying up my Dad's garden (he's still in hospital, but with an operation coming up soon), we enjoyed an evening bonfire.

We thought the backdrop of the greenhouse worked very well. Simple pleasures - who needs TV when the whole family (teenagers included) is happy to watch a bonfire of an evening.

More skies from around the world are at Skywatch Friday.

  1. Beautiful sky, Linda. It looks chilly, though. I'm sure the bonfire felt cozy on such a day. Thoughts and prayers going out for your dad.

  2. The sky scape is so beautiful. Bonfires are always a unifier for people as the gather to watch the fire. That is a nice photo too. I at first thought the fire was burning in the greenhouse.

  7. Fire beckons us to enjoy it's brilliance and heat. I love a good fire, into the night chatting with friends and drinking wine.

Perchance does the fire have anything to do with ballots or maybe newspapers with lot's of politics??

Also posted to Flikr is a view of the No 23 Bus!

Edinburgh now frowns on bonfires on allotments, which I happily disregarded until a neighbour advised me - "You know there is a communal burning area" - which there is. So I've finnaly got rid of my heap/bonfire area and planted three row of spuds in what's left of it to "clean" it up.

Phew so much ground to cover!

I'm so happy, I have just booked trip #2 to Edinburgh, this summer... twice in just a few weeks! I can't wait to see your lovely country again. :)

  12. Thanks for the comments. Seems like a bonfire is appreciated the world over.

Adrienne, it was COLD that evening. What we call 'bare' in Scotland.

The Chieftess, our bonfire was before the election, but I'm very tempted to make another one of all the election leaflets we've had through the letterbox.

Mal, I am a rabid anti-bonfire allotmenteer, because our house lies in the 'smoke path' of 3 allotment sites. Since we don't own a tumble drier, I dry a lot of washing outside, and I really object to it being kippered by 'fires' of smouldering green weeds. Glad to hear you've given up your fire habit!

Lothiane, glad to hear you're going to visit Edinburgh again. Hope you have a great time (and that you actually get here despite the ash cloud).

  14. Hopefully, the ash cloud won't cause too much problems when I'm planning to visit.

If you're in Edinburgh during Pipefest, look for Norwegian flags. I'll be marching together with my pipeband. :)
