Snowy Edinburgh
Well, what else can I call it? The view is from Blackford Hill, north towards the Castle. Photo courtesy of my daughter, who was on a sledging outing with friends on Monday when her school was closed. Tuesday was another snow day, but with studying done at home (the year of Highers exams), and it was back to school on Wednesday once the ground staff had cleared enough pathways round the campus. The problem is that the snow keeps falling. Edinburgh airport is closed, the Forth Road Bridge is closed, trains are cancelled or delayed. The city is quiet, muffled.
But for some there's a bright side. Capitalising on our huge dump of snow, my daughter's school has hastily introduced a 'house snowman' competition for tomorrow, to go with all the other house competitions that happen throughout the year.
You've been on my mind, as we've seen the weather reports about all of your snow. Glad you are all keeping well.
ReplyDeletetowns are so beautiful with their snow coat :)
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing the snowmen !
Wonderful photos. I has been on all the tv news broadcasts here in Oz.
ReplyDeleteHere we are having a very wet
spring/early summer after years of drought, floods in some places, but much needed.
Lots of people are blogging about snow. We haven't gotten any here yet! Scotland looks beautiful snow covered.
ReplyDeleteLinda - Edinburgh is so lovely cloaked in her mantle of ermine. However, her spirit seems to be quashed so here's hoping the sun will shine soon! Warm(er) wishes from Colorado to You! :-)
ReplyDeleteSo perfectly beautiful! It's a beautiful city regardless but the snow just makes it over the top. Getting close to Christmas alright!
ReplyDeleteGoodness, that's a lot of snow! I hope the temps (and winds) aren't as appalling. Still, when Mother Nature puts on a white dress, she sure does look beautiful!
ReplyDeleteLovely photo!
ReplyDeleteThat does look beautiful. It seems as if you've had more snow that us this year!
ReplyDeleteIt really looks quite beautiful but I know it must be a real trial since you don't have the infrastructure to deal with it. Even here that much snow would slow us down a bit!
ReplyDeleteThat's so beautiful and charming! And a LOT of snow. That's disadvantage to coastal So Cal - a day off school that kids here never get.
ReplyDeleteWow! And I was complaining because we had a dusting!
ReplyDeleteOh WOW Linda.... I LOVE snow --and we don't get alot of it here. SO--I have to enjoy it through others' blogs.... I love that kind of snow which clings to all of the trees/evergreens... SO gorgeous....
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing... By the way, was this 'normal' for you all--or rare????
Hugs,
Betsy
Now that's a lot of snow!!! And that top photo made me feel ten degrees colder!!!
ReplyDeleteWe're having a bit of a warm spell...about 45 degrees the past few days...the snow is dropping off our roof in big clumps...kaboom!!!
It looks very serene and quiet and beautiful....and cold!
ReplyDeleteWhat can i say? I'll just go and look out the window. Good luck for the house snowman comp. x
ReplyDeleteI should clarify...I'm saying 45 degrees Farenheit!!! As a Southern California girl, born and raised, I'm used to temps more along the lines of the 60 degree mark for a cold winter day!!! But nowadays, 45 degrees F. is warm for us...now that we've moved to the Eastern Sierras!!!
ReplyDeleteLast year we had our first snow in mid-Oct and our last dumper just before the end of May. I was heartily sick of it all.
ReplyDeleteThis year we have not had snow yet.
Keep it all in Scotland if you don't mind!! I can admire it vicariously.
Very pretty! We have snow here too. Matter of fact, I see the snow falling as I look out the window. It is dark outside, but there is a street light right outside our living room window. The snow looks pretty lit by the street light.
ReplyDeletei'm hoping to share my own pictures of snow soon. we're getting a few flurries right now. stay warm. have a great day~
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos! My legs are certainly gaining some strength marching through the snow and slush. Hope you're keeping warm!
ReplyDeleteNice picture of the snow, now we have had a few days of fine and clear weather. But it's dark at 15.00 in the afternoon. There is not much daylight to take pictures.
