Skywatch - Cairngorms spring
A shot from a couple of weeks back, on our way down through the Central Highlands after spending Easter on Speyside. This is the north-eastern edge of the Cairngorms range of mountains, here with the last of the spring snow. As well as one of Scotland's main ski areas, the Cairngorms also have remnants of the primeval Caledonian Forest, rare birds, plants and animals, and five of Scotland's six highest mountains.
I bet the ski area people were wishing those clouds would give them just a bit more snow. The season has been patchy.
See more skies at the Skywatch Friday site.

It makes my island look so small. A real breathe of fresh air.
ReplyDeleteThe lovely Cairngorms.....you're getting closer! I'm looking out for those familiar landmarks.
ReplyDeleteMagnificent mountains. I love mountain scenes. Great shot.
ReplyDeletebeautiful view...thanks for sharing
ReplyDeleteIncredible photo and gorgeous scenery.
ReplyDeleteOh! Scotland and the Highlands, wonderful just wonderful. Nice one.
ReplyDeleteLovely to find someone else who loves Speyside, it's one of our favourite places and we are only half an hour away. We often spend a few days in Granton and walk by the river and the Speyside way
ReplyDeleteHi Linda!
ReplyDeleteThose look actually climbable! What is the highest elevation gain in Scotland. Between that and Scotch you might just have a house guest soon :)
BTW, my weekend did turn out to be rainy.
Sylvia, the highest mountain in Scotland is Ben Nevis, at 4409 feet, followed by Ben Macdhui in the Cairgorm range at 4297 feet. Not high by North American standards, but interesting, and with rapidly changing weather conditions they're deceptive. Our mountain rescue teams are always busy rescuing people who have underestimated the challenges of the Scottish hills.
