Skywatch Friday: At last - colour
Thank you, Mother Nature, for a shot of colour this week. Tonight all the Christmas lights in the centre of town were switched on. I was in Princes Street at the time, and jumped out of my skin when the fireworks went off from the Castle. Should have know there'd be fireworks - no event is complete without them now. Since I haven't had my course in night time photography yet (coming up in January - I can't wait!) I didn't try to capture the show - I'm sure some other Scottish bloggers will have. It was all very cheerful and collectively jolly, but it didn't lift my heart in the way that this fragment of rainbow did. I'm such a country girl at heart!
See other skies at the Skywatch Friday site.
This is an unusual sight, both a grey sky and a rainbow. Our skies have been grey for weeks now so I used an old photo for my entry. Thank you for visiting my blog! Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteSo stark and gloomy and the bright rainbow. Lovely.
ReplyDeleteGreat rainbow shot, wish I had known about the fireworks display. I am hoping my sister and I will be able to get to the Hogmanay stuff this year ( if we get out tickets that is). Thanks for sharing:)
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful shot. The rainbow is enhancement to a great foreground scene. The carnival seems out of season but maybe it is warm enough for it to be. Have a good day.
ReplyDeleteHi Linda
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic shot. The rainbow is beautiful.
Have a great weekend

Love the Rainbow...good job !!

Was that what those explosions were? I heard them from my flat and my first thought was "carbomb", then "canon fire" because I couldn't see any fireworks from my window. I do wish the city council would warn people o_0 Pretty gutted that I missed them!!
ReplyDeleteI love the rainbow sprouting from Princes Street - I wonder if the workmen there found any gold in their diggings?
Nice rainbow over the city.
ReplyDeletetoday I learnt the expression "to jump out of my skin". Thanks ;o)
Fabulous photo Linda - the rainbow is so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend to you:)
I love these little bits of city corners and the rainbow really sets off that lovely snippet of a spire.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful capture of the rainbow. Great photo.
ReplyDeleteI love your shot Linda the rainbow and the red and white marquee make it special. Oh! abd I managed to enlarge your picture today.
ReplyDeleteWord Verification is 'glory'
ReplyDeleteNothing more needs to be said.
amazing shot. Beautiful composition too
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shot. Lovely rainbow.
ReplyDeleteThat's a wonderful shot!
ReplyDeletePlease check some Heavenly Sky over at Chinhae, Korea!
The rainbow in the sky is very nice.
ReplyDeleteGreat rainbow shot. Very interesting with the ride and building on the foreground.
ReplyDeleteSuch a lovely bit of color in the gray sky. The Christmas lights and fireworks must have added a bit of color as well.
ReplyDeleteWhat a grand picture! I'd love to be there some year for Christmas celebrtions.
ReplyDeleteRainbows are wonderful. I was walking the dogs in the rain earlier this week and the sun was shining but I was disappointed not to see a rainbow anywhere!
ReplyDeleteStunning shot , i love rainbows too !
ReplyDeleteEnchantment.
ReplyDeleteI can never get over the rainbows in Scotland.
And, Christmas lights on Princes Street. It is well and truly the season now!
Great shot...love the rainbow and the composition. Super nice!
ReplyDeleteGreat shot with the grey sky and the color of the rainbow, and the cityscape. I remember the grey winter skies from when I lived in Holland, I'm sure Scotland is similar in weather.
ReplyDeleteLinda, I enjoy so much this fine picture. Very beautiful view of Edimburgh with the charming rainbow.
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend!
great sky shot! that must have been a breath of fresh air to see.
ReplyDeleteGlad you stopped by so I could find your very interesting blog.
: )
I think we're all children at heart when it comes to rainbows! And goodness knows we've had enough rain lately to merit a few rainbows. Lucky you having a German Christmas market to visit!
ReplyDeleteJanice.
Dear Linda,
ReplyDeleteSo glad you're a country girl. So am I. I hate fireworks because of my dogs. And all those unfortunate other animals effected by them too - both wild and domestic.
A rainbow as handsome as this one wins in my mind any time.
Still look forward to see the results of your new skills after your course in night time shooting. Very interesting.
Holy Cow! This is a g-r-e-a-t skywatch Friday post.

Love rainbows, but then who doesn't? :-)
ReplyDeleteGreat shot!!
So, when does the Christmas season officially start in Scotland? Of course, we just had our Thanksgiving yesterday, which provides a natural beginning to the season. When does it start there?
ReplyDeleteI was attracted to that gothic church and the ferris wheel. What an odd combo and the rainbow is a nice add!
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting my blog. You must have come my way via Wandering Weeta.
ReplyDeleteInteresting that you are from Scotland ... we've just been researching some of my husband's Scottish ancestry (from the Hebrides). We've both been to Scotland in years gone by but would love to come again some time ... but we're not great on the hassle of air travel now we're in our dotage! LOL
Great picture of such a gray day with that shot of colour from the rainbow!
PS - nothing like a good rainbow photo to wow the crowd. Well done.
ReplyDeleteMarvellous streak of color along with so many interesting details. I just read The Devil in the White City, which described, among lots of other things, the design & building of the 1st Ferris Wheel for the 1893 World's Fair in Chicago (by Mr. Ferris, of course - which I never knew.)
ReplyDeleteBreezy Point Mom asks when Christmas officially starts here, and I don't know. I don't think we have an official point. There's a retail point, which everyone tries to ignore, because it's usually around September/October. Then there's a civic point, often allied with tourism, which starts at the end of November, as in Edinburgh. Then the schools start to do end of term Christmassy things. I would say for me it starts with the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols at my children's school, around 16 December. We get our Christmas tree that week, so that's my personal start.
ReplyDeleteLovely!
ReplyDeleteNovember was very dark and rainy here in Oslo, so I understand about being happy for a small sign of light and colour from Mother Nature. :)
