Early sunset

After our day of heavy snow on Monday that brought central Scotland to a standstill, Tuesday was a perfect day of frost and sun. The afterglow of sunset lights up the sky behind Edinburgh Castle. The time is 2.50 p.m. I seem to have a penchant for taking winter sunset photos at 2.50 p.m: I posted an allotment sunset from that time on Sunday at my Slow Growing blog.

For those curious about sunrise time, it was 8.31 a.m. today. Technically sunset is later, at 3.40 at Tuesday, but I judge sunset by when I can't see the sun any more. I have to admit that the bulk of Edinburgh Castle does mean that the sun is hidden that bit earlier, but from where I was standing it felt like sunset for me.

More skies around the world are at Skywatch Friday.

  1. Oh, how I love your views, Linda! Are they from where you work? I must admit I am a bit jealous! But, I also must admit that I am not envious about the cold - we get enough of that here. Also...I am a bit humbled (scuffs foot in sand)...I do believe we have your weather here and you have ours. It was 60 degrees yesterday and nearly that again today. We should have some snow on the ground by now! I suppose it is time to return it to you...sigh

  4. Oh, so early. Daylight- where have you gone?

Standing on the ocean's edge yesterday, my sunset was at 4:44pm. Even that seems a bit early. But 2:30??

  7. Great silhouette - a perfect Skywatch Friday post!

I was amused reading about how 4 inches of snow brought Paris to a standstill today. We'd barely notice that, and I'm sure Edinburgh wouldn't either.
