Peebles Highland Games - dancing and swinging
Rehearsals, before the big moment. Must be difficult to get the footwork right on that tussocky grass.
Even if it's not your turn, you can still dance.
And then there's the swinging of the hammer.
And if that palls, there's always the traditional Scottish sport of crossing a bridge by the underneath.
Photos taken by my daughter at Peebles Highland Games a couple of weekends ago. Already these summery scenes seem far in the past. Autumn is here.
Gosh it does seem so far away! We even had a frost at the weekend. Love that bridge swinging technique.
ReplyDeleteShe has some great photos to share. I would be nervous hanging around the swinging hammer. Our shot put throw over here is also scary. I like all the different plaids.
ReplyDeleteI am a highland dancer from Canada :) Your photos of the games totally made my day!
ReplyDeleteI've always wanted to go to a Highland Games, they look like so much fun. It's still midsummer here - it's not uncommon to have had our first snow by now, but not this year.
ReplyDeleteAnother lovely glimpse into your world. Thank you!

les danseuses sont très jolies ;) Et avec le soleil une fête réussie :)
ReplyDeleteGreat pics. You're right, autumn's definitely here. Though I'm doggedly holding off switching on the heating till October! (4 days to go!).
ReplyDeleteI noticed the leaves falling today. I guess that's it then for a while - *sigh*
I love the shot of the three dancers and of the fella crossing under that bridge! I sure hope for his sake he made it, because if the waters up your way follow the same cycle as they down here in Montreal, that river must be getting awful chilly!
ReplyDeleteGreat photos! I really like the red tartan.
ReplyDeleteScots Porridge Oats men swinging the hammer! Hooray!
ReplyDeleteI like that crossing the bridge underneath best I think! Looks like lots of fun for everyone at the games. Your daughter did a good job of capturing it all.
ReplyDeleteThe dancers are so pretty (their companion is very cute)... my leg muscles are getting tired just imagining their dance - so much strength with poise.
ReplyDeleteSame goes for the throwers (but not as attractive, even with the legs showing ;)
Your last photo is a delight in so many aspects - the above & below the bridge views (are they aware of each other) and the two visible photographers and one not in the photo.
My son was just asking about the Highland games this morning. Evidently he recently wrote a social studies project on Scotland. I'll have to show him your photos.
