Skywatch Friday - those little things
When you live in a city the passage of the seasons is marked by different signs to those of nature. Here in Edinburgh, the signs this week are all about the end of the Festival, and therefore the end of summer. Take this view of Edinburgh Castle. It still looks summery. Blue sky, billowy green trees.
Look again.
That little yellow arm is busy dismantling the grandstand seating for the Military Tattoo on the Castle esplanade. The swallows haven't gone yet, but with the Tattoo seating being taken down we know that summer is over.
More skies from across the world are at Skywatch Friday.
Never mind.
ReplyDeleteThe sky is still a lovely warm clear blue. If only for another few days :-)
Oh, my beloved Edinburgh... I can't believe it's been 2 years since I've packed up and headed over to Scotland for another year of University. I miss it!
ReplyDeletePretty good scene with a clean sky!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by.
Have a nice weekend!
The swallows are in for a nasty shock when the fireworks concert to mark the end of the festival happens. (Sunday)
ReplyDeleteI love the blue sky in the photos! They're wonderful Skywatch shots. The festivals are pretty much all done here too and a few leaves have started to turn, so we know that summer is coming to an end here in Montreal too...but MAN is it hot out! We're in the middle of a heatwave right now, so it still makes the end of summer hard to believe in.
ReplyDeleteSuch gorgeous, clear, blue skies and the perfect backdrop for the Edinburgh Castle! Terrific captures for the day! Happy SWF! Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Such a beautiful scene you've captured there. I've never been to Scotland but, oh, how I would love to. Is the tatoo held in August? I think it's wonderful that it is held right at the castle!
ReplyDeleteLovely sky - and just imagine how QUIET it will be!!
ReplyDeleteOh, I thought I recognized that skyline. Beautiful. And the seating for the Tattoo -- the thrill of a lifetime, being at the Edinburgh Tattoo. It was 1996 but I'll never forget it.
ReplyDeleteYou live in an amazing place. Thank you for sharing it with us.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting - that castle looks very impressive. I live in a place with lots of nature and mountains, and soon the aspen at the highest elevations will turn (we've already seen snow on the highest peaks). Then the trees at lower elevations will turn.
ReplyDeleteOh! my goodness what a terrific view. The architecture of castle is amazing.
ReplyDeleteSummer in Western Washington State, USA ends when the kids return to school, the flower baskets come down from their perches and,the rivers get a break from all the swimming and tubing and football begins (American style that is)
ReplyDeleteGreat blue sky.
ReplyDeleteThat's quite a unique sign of summer ending!
ReplyDeleteI love your first photo. Beautiful cityscape!
Very nice view , have you been to the Tatoo Festival ?
ReplyDeleteBeatiful!
ReplyDeleteIn answer to questions about the Tattoo: yes, it's held in August each year. And no, I've never been. Nor have my children. We've been talking about it this summer and deciding that we should go next year. The tickets sell out fast, so we'll have to get ourselves organised early!
ReplyDeleteScuh a lovely skies and captures.
ReplyDeleteHappy SWF.
that is a clear sky. Our swallows are almost gone. Only a few left. :)
ReplyDeleteThe grandstands were already up when we were there the last week of July. Silly me thought they were permanent. That space in front of the castle must look really different.
ReplyDeleteHere we think it is fall already, until we go out to work in the yard in the middle of the day. I could only handle half an hour of weeding.
great shots of Edinburgh. i'd love to see the tattoo some time. it's on my wish list of things to see.
ReplyDeleteSummer may be leaving, but what a blue sky!!
ReplyDeletegorgeous blue skies yet but that castle... it catches my eye. beautiful photos. have a great weekend and thanks for stopping by my blog. your comments are greatly appreciated.
ReplyDeleteI am so fascinated with Scotland. I love the grand castles. All your photos are splendid. I looked around.:)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the visit to my blog.
What lovely weather you got!
ReplyDeleteThis saddens me somewhat. I have visited Edinburgh twice this summer, and I just love this city!
I was at the opening of the tattoo - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qLfhv_1DmHI - and it was a awesome experience! My first, but hopefully not my last visit to the tattoo.
I miss Edinburgh and Scotland, but hopefully I will be there again soon. :)
Wow, what a sight to see on a regular basis. Our fall has set in so quickly here, colder and the air is less humid.
