Skywatch Friday - one o'clock gun
The wispy cloud and mist over the castle battlements are from the firing of the one o'clock gun yesterday. I pulled my camera out just a bit too late for best effect, but the bang was still echoing around Princes Street in a city emptied of Festival crowds and with the invasion of university and further education college students only just starting.
I never noticed before how many chimneys Edinburgh Castle has.
Skywatch Friday is here.
Yes nice roof , i can see the smoke !
ReplyDeleteMany chimneys = many fires.....much needed in a draughty old castle. How did folk survive the winters? Must have been made of tougher stuff then.
ReplyDeleteNice photo, thanks for sharing your part of the world in skywatch.
ReplyDeleteLooks like stair steps to the sky
ReplyDeleteLinda, loved seeing this shot.
ReplyDeleteWhen we were in Edinburgh years ago, we had limited tour time and chose to tour Hollyrood instead of the castle (though we did see it from afar). I wish we had seen both now. Our friends chose to tour the castle.
The romantic in me just wanted to see Hollyrood because I have long been enamored of Mary Stewart. I loved the film about her, starring Vanessa Redgrave as Mary and Glenda Jackson as Elizabeth. And I'm convinced in my heart that a Stewart should be sitting on the throne. Don't even get me started! LOL! I reportedly had ancestors banished to the colonies as political prisoners for their part in trying to return Bonnie Prince Charlie to power. They just didn't catch the rest!
XO,
Sheila :-)
I agree with Gennasus, old aristocrats needed to be kept warm...
ReplyDeleteThis is a great photo. Thanks for sharing the chimneys at Edinburgh Castle. It must be wonderful to view upclose.
ReplyDeleteThat looks romantic and lovely. I guess it wouldtake a lot of fire to keep such a big place warm.
ReplyDeleteWow Gun smoke, great photo!
ReplyDeleteI like this one Linda, I have to admit I've never been to Edinburgh Castle but hope to one day.
ReplyDeleteGreat photo! Really neat castle too!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog and saying your kind words - very sweet. I do strive to be better all of the time. It gets frustrating but at least I'll have lots of pictures of those that I love.
When I visited the castle, I, too, was amazed by the number of chimneys. Kind of surprised the place never burned down.
ReplyDeleteYou have your whole life to practise and be ready just at the right moment for the firing gun. Don´t stop now!:-)
