Skywatch Friday - University halls

Once home of a girls' school called St Trinnean's (the inspiration for Ronald Searle's St Trinian's books and later films) , St Leonard's Hall is now a conference venue at the University of Edinburgh's Pollock Halls site.

Moving on architecturally from the 1870's, the shot above and the next two below show Holland House hall of residence. Yes, shame about the dark foreground above, but I'll get all these exposure thingies sorted out eventually.

And coming right up to date - Chancellor's Court, with Salisbury Crags behind.

Chancellor's Court with the rather more utilitarian Grant House in the background - oh, and Arthur's Seat.

No students yet - that'll be next weekend. Meantime, preparations for the influx continue.

Visit the Skywatch Friday site to see more skies around the world.

  1. Aww, Pollock... I miss that place! Sort of. I was in Ewing House. Not quite as fancy as Holland or Chancellor's, but I'd go so far as to say we had the most fun. :) I always loved the walk up from the central campus to the halls. And what great weekends hiking up Arthur's Seat & Crags! :)

  2. The first photo is really striking. Fine stone textures too. Lot of houses from different times and the mountain in the background was so beautiful. I can never understand that the summer vacations are so different there because everything has been in full swing for a long time here.

  3. Liked all your photos. The one you think is too dark just makes the sky that much more impressive. I like how it's framed.

Oh, and from one of your previous posts...I have ALL of Irvine Welsh's books. The man has a SICK sense of humor, but I love trying to read the words as they are actually spoken

  17. Your welcome Linda. My daughter is doing wonderful. She has already taken root on the college campus. She has joined the Women's Rugby team lol. She is already active in several different goings on and is part of the Symphony and Wind Ensembles. Your son will do great! It took a few days for me to not cry every time I thought of her being there, but now I can see how happy and excited she is and that she is doing so well...so I dont worry AS much. lol.
