Welcome Scottish style

Welcoming thistles on an Edinburgh gate

  1. Is that actually typically Scottish? Do you find that crown of thistles in many forms and styles around the city and region?

Thanks for your visit in Avignon. Your French is excellent !!!?

  2. This is the first time I've seen this particular arrangement, but the thistle is a national emblem. Apparently the thistle saved Scotland from invasion from Norse invaders in the Middle Ages - perhaps the ancestors of chrome3d - when one of the sneaky Norse army invading under cover of darkness stepped on a thistle with his bare foot and let out a yell which woke the Scottish army, who were fast asleep dreaming of their morning porridge.

The Emperor Charlemagne is supposed to have been involved in founding the Order of the Thistle, which is the highest honour in Scotland. We are a bit strange, naming our highest honour after a prickly plant.

I'll stick to English from now on, Nathalie - French looks weird on screen without accents, and my memory for genders is hazy!
