Edinburgh's seaside

The sandy beach at Portobello, at low tide. Late on this autumn afternoon it's almost deserted (more of this tomorrow). In the summer it's the city's seaside, but much less than it was in its heyday before Spanish and other sun lured people abroad. Of course, there's a Wikipedia entry for it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portobello,_Edinburgh

  1. It looks lovely. Though I guess it's a bit bracing at this time of year :)

  2. This is nice. I never think of Scotland being a "beach" place. Of course, it's an island! Bet the water's real cold eh?

  3. Jackie's description of 'bracing' sums it up, Delia. But we're a hardy race. I remember as a child the pain of being rubbed dry after a dip in the sea, as sensation began to return to numb limbs, and then the bliss of hot tomato soup from a thermos flask which mothers packed as routine for a day at the seaside. On second thoughts, perhaps that's why so many Scots flee to countries like Canada...

  4. It's a beautiful scene, so calm and peaceful. We had no idea the terrain is as flat as it appears. Thank you for sharing.
